From Lace to Neoprene: Celebrating Love, Warmth, and Bracing for the Chill!

From Lace to Neoprene: Celebrating Love, Warmth, and Bracing for the Chill!

This week marks a very special occasion for us, our 13th wedding anniversary! Traditionally, the 13th year is symbolised by lace – delicate, intricate, and beautiful, much like the interwoven threads of a long-lasting marriage. While I adore the romantic notion of lace, my mind this year is far more focused on a different kind of material.... neoprene.

Why neoprene, you may be wondering? Because as much as I cherish the warmth and comfort of my marriage, I'm also preparing to embrace the invigorating chill of open-air winter swimming!  I think there's something incredibly liberating about braving the cold, and for that, a good wet suit is essential. It's about finding warmth in unexpected places, much like the enduring love that has carried my partner and me through 13 years of marriage.

Speaking of warmth, it reminds me of another significant anniversary symbol: wax, which represents 16 years of marriage. Symbolising a couple's ability to adapt, shape their lives together, and maintain warmth and flexibility in their marriage.  Here at The Ubiquitous Candle Company, we know all about the power of wax to create an atmosphere of cosiness and light. Imagine coming home from a brisk winter swim, stepping into a warm bath, and lighting one of our beautifully scented candles. The flickering flame and comforting aroma would be the perfect antidote to the cold, mirroring the consistent glow of a love that continues to burn brightly.

So, while lace will always hold a special place in my heart as a symbol of our journey, this year, I'm finding joy in the practical embrace of neoprene and looking forward to the steadfast glow of wax in the years to come. Here's to 13 years of love, and many more adventures – both in and out of the water!

What are your favourite ways to celebrate your anniversaries, or perhaps embrace the winter chill?
